06:05 pm - It's kind of a job...
The learning center at school needs an econ tutor because the lady from davis apparently can't only not teach upper division, but she's also screwing up the principles students. Anyway, I decided I would jump on this because I need more money than I have. I was the first one to go in, which is good because it sounds like they only intend on hiring one econ tutor for the time being. Upside since I'm a 'special subject' tutor I start at $7.10/hr instead of $6.75/hr, the downside is that since I'm a 'special subject' tutor they only want me for four hours a week. Which means I'm making $28.40/week. But I guess that's more than I was making ($0/wk) so I shouldn't complain. Mostly I only need money because the price of gas is depleting my reserves (savings accout). So I can make two weeks worth of gas money in one week. I'll have a little extra left over.
But anyway, in order to tutor I have to get a recommdation from one of my principles professors (which both happen to be Engalnd). Not that I think he would rate me poorly (it was an easy rec form that just involved circling numbers that ranged from FAIR to SUPERIOR), but I don't know, when he gave it back he told me that he'd had to give his honest opinion on some of them...which sounded bad. I did tell him that it couldn't be that bad because it only ranged from fair to superior so there was no HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT number to mark. I'm not supposed to see the form so he gave it back to me in one of those big envelopes. It was white though, and with the exception of a lot of writing on the outside, totally see-throughable if held up to light. This is how I was rated:
1. Knowledge of the subject: 4 (superior)
2. Academic Maturity: 4 (superior)
3. Verbal Communication Skills: 3 (above averge)
4. Potential to Teach: 3 (above averge)
5. Interaction with other students: 3 (above average)
And he checked the "I highly recommend..." box. So it wasn't bad at all, though I like totally have better verbal skills than he's giving me credit for.
Anyway, I have to go back and meet with the coordinator guy on Monday, but today he was talking about setting up a schedule so it sounds like I got it.
